How to Draw Sonic Step by Step Easy
Hi guys. So if you are a fan of video games, then you must have tried your hands on Sonic the Hedgehog one of the most incredible video games series of all times. Now, what exactly do we love about Sonic the Hedgehog?. There are simply a lot of things. Asides from its absolutely impressive plot, there is no disputing the fact that its fictional characters are just fabulous. Having said that, one character that stands out is the protagonist Sonic. Sonic is a blue colored hedgehog with human characteristics. He is idolized for his supersonic speed with which he runs. Furthermore, Sonic can easily transform into a ball for the sole purpose of attacking enemies. In several levels of this video game, sonic had the challenge of racing and collecting power-up rings. Pretty amazing right?.
Now, in this tutorial, we would be drawing Sonic from start to finish. This would be done in seven steps. It's important that you are fully in tune with each step. The more familiar you are with every step, the more flawless and natural your drawing will be. That said, we would start off by drawing a dummy which would be a base for our final sketch. Ready?! Let's get drawing!
So, How To Draw Sonic:
In this tutorial, we have the primary objective of guiding you through the procedure of drawing a realistic image of sonic. We will be doing this in seven easy to learn steps which you should follow strictly in order to get the best results.
Step 1: Drawing The Torso:
As shown in the image above, Sonic's torso would be drawn using the 3/4 drawing scale. This simply means that the left side of the torso facing the viewers would be larger in size than the right side. Also going across the torso would be a vertical line and a horizontal line which intersects at the middle. Going on, the top of the torso should be highlighted. This would serve as a base for the head. Having drawn that, you should go on to create a base for our character's hands. The base would be depicted at the left side of the torso and would take the form of a small circle drawn at the topmost part of the torso. Additionally, you should ensure you include the curved lines which make up this stage of our characters drawing. Such lines include an arc which depicts his protruding belly and the curved lines that form his back.
Going on, you should draw a base for the legs. This can be in the form of underwear as seen in the above image. At the lower part of the underwear, the line should curve in. This is where our characters legs would emerge from. Now that that's done, let's go on to the drawing the legs.
Step 2: Drawing The Legs:
Sonic would be drawn on his feet with his legs slightly apart. The legs would be drawn in the semblance of a small sized tube and would gradually get bigger as they get to the knees. At the knee level, two horizontal lines should be drawn across each knee. Within the lines, there should be a circle. This would depict the knee cap. Having gotten the knees right, the legs should expand some more as they get to the feet. Now you've gotten to the feet, you can go on and draw them as seen in the above image.
Step 3: Drawing The Arms:
Emerging from the base created for the arms, Sonic's arms would be drawn in the semblance of really small pipes. Additionally, they will take the shape of the letter L as seen in the above image. Getting to the palms, they should be drawn in a big size. The left palm should be drawn closed as they hold onto the right arm. With that done, go on to draw the right palm open and highlight the knuckles. Now that we've covered that, let's get on with the next step.
Step 4: Drawing The Head:
Now for the head, it should be drawn in a size bigger than the torso itself and should be drawn using the 3/4 drawing scale. Within the head should be a horizontal line and a vertical line, both of which should cross at the center. The right side of the head should be smaller in size and should have the necessary curves as shown in the above image. Lastly, go on to draw the ears of Sonic in an upright and pointed triangular shape as seen in the image.
Step 5: Drawing The Hair And The Tail
The next step will be to draw Sonic's hair. We will draw 4 spike type shapes growing from the back of the head. Try to create some curved and fluid lines connecting between them and creating the 4 main strains of hair.
Also, you should pay attention to Sonic's bottom. In this step, we will draw a small pointy tail. This tail will look like a smaller version of the big strains of hair coming from the head, but instead of pointing downwards, the tail will point upwards.

Step 6: Drawing The Final Line Art:
At this point, we are giving our drawing so far a boost by drawing the final line art. This stage would make it look more natural and flawless. Having said that, the final lines range from the hair to the body and the facial details. However, before we get at it, the dummy should first be faded out in order to keep it from meddling with the flow of your final sketch. Using the traces still left as well as the above image, begin to draw the final lines art. Remember to take it one body part at a time and you will be just fine. Next up, let's paint the base colors.
Step 7: Painting The Colors:
This is the most fun part of our tutorial where we make our drawing come alive with some vibrant colors. So roll up your sleeves, get your colors as seen in the image ready and let's get painting ourselves a masterpiece.
